Outside of his roles in The Great Escape and Bullitt, Steve McQueen was quite an accomplished motorcycle and race car driver. He also liked to work on cars, leading to his 1969 design patent (D2 19584) for an improved bucket seat. The patented seat was used in the Ford Mustang in Bullitt; the design had no functional purpose other than to make McQueen look cool in the movie.
